AuthorAID is a global research community that provides networking, mentoring, resources and training for researchers in developing countries.

Over 3000 researchers are registered with the Plone based community website, which provides public resources and extranet document collaboration areas.

This site was the first Plone 3, buildout based system that our team had developed. My role was to setup the architecture for building these sites onto a range of replica virtual servers for dev, demo and production versions.

Along with developing some of the core features and dealing with some performance and resiliency issues. So for example the default RSS feed tool in Plone at that time, did not have an appropriate timeout, revert to previous cached feed design - hence this had to be added to prevent third party sites becoming dependencies for the system.
